In one of the representative townhouses in Split's Lučac district, in a building from the first half of the 20th century, an interior was designed that respects the heritage of the space, but at the same time corresponds to the rhythm of modern urban life. The client wanted a home where peace and classics meet, with an unpretentious dose of elegance.
The existing floor plan grid, characteristic of mid-20th century architecture, presented a challenge, but also an opportunity. Through careful opening of spatial connections and defining functional units, the original character of the space was preserved, while successfully modernizing it.
The living area, facing south, is designed as a fluid space of kitchen, dining room and living room. The kitchen, made of warm-toned walnut, creates a tactile contrast to the white, lacquered library that dominates the living room. The library is not just an aesthetic element – it hides a discreetly integrated air conditioning system, combining technical functionality and visual purity.
A calm monochromatic palette runs throughout the entire interior: floor tiles with a natural stone effect, neutral interior woodwork, and bathroom elements crafted from the same material.
Special emphasis is placed on the entrance area, treated as a transitional space between the outside and inside worlds. The gold-tone wall covering and convex mirror reflect light and space, adding dynamics and depth.
